Yamaha Touch sensitive Digital Drums

Lay down a pulsing beat without investing in a spendy traditional drum set with the Yamaha DD-20CAD touch-sensitive digital drums. This entry-level unit is a must for the beginning drummer, as it simulates the feel of an acoustic instrument while also delivering the benefits of digital technology. The beat radiates from the unit’s four touch-sensitive drum pads and four sound-effects pads (with 16 effects), which combine to create a huge variety of sounds. To further mix things up, Yamaha added 55 assignable pulse-code modulation (PCM) voices, 100 PCM rhythm styles, and 10 percussion sets (nine preprogrammed and one user-assignable). Despite the array of features, the set is intuitive and easy to use, with a scroll wheel on the bottom left for browsing through voices and styles and a straightforward user interface.

Other features include a single 3.94-inch speaker, a headphone jack that lets you practice in private without waking up the neighbors, an AC power adapter, and a pair of drum sticks. And at 9.3 by 5.9 by 17.1 inches (W x H x D) and a mere 3.1 pounds, this is one drum set that fits easily in a studio apartment or bedroom. So put off that acoustic purchase a bit longer and learn to play the easy way with the DD-20CAD.

Good beginner set.
I got this for my 12 year old daughter. It's smaller that I thought it would be, pads are about 5-6" in diameter. It is good for beginners and the price is right.

Not Too Happy
I bought this electric drumset for my 14 year old son for a Christmas present. If I had time to return it, I would have. It's smaller than what the picture seems to suggest. It can sit in a normal adult lap barely hanging off each side, if any at all. It did not come with the AC adaptor as the item description listed it did. It makes several sounds which can be entertaining for any age group. But for the purposes of playing the drums, not at all useful. You have to hit the pads rather hard and they are closer together considering the whole thing is small. Don't waste your money on this set if it's for an older child wanting to learn to play the drums.

good start
We purchased this for our son's 6th birthday. He had been playing a friend's prof. drum set with some success, but we weren't ready to commit to a big set. He loves this! It is a big step up from the toy store models. He has no problem hitting the pads to keep a beat. His favorite part is the variety of preprogrammed music. He often uses it as a synthesizer to dance to. It seems sturdy and well made to hold up to a young boy's abuse.
